abilities:
Note: combat abilities listed here summarize his light-elemental versions, as these abilities are also shown in the story.
Sandalphon is an immortal, nigh-indestructible being, though not an invulnerable one. As a primarch, otherwise known as an archangel, he possesses a number of abilities. He can manifest and demanifest his body, because it's a coalescence of elemental power. By the same token, he could change his appearance or drastically change his size, having become large enough that an airship would be dwarfed by him in the past. Even so, Sandalphon inclines toward maintaining a humanoid size and his default appearance. In the past, he has remarked upon not being good at teleporting over long distances as others of his kind can.
Possessing wings, Sandalphon is capable of flight. He doesn't typically manifest these in his day-to-day life, but as with others of his kind, his wings contain nearly as much of his power as his core. In his unique case, he has a grand total of twelve wings, of which ten were inherited. Six wings is considered to be comparable to a god in power... Yet on a typical day, Sandalphon will be sitting there brewing coffee. He's quite
Sandalphon, like others of his kind, will gradually regenerate from damage over time. If the damage is severe, he'd have to demanifest and enter a deep sleep. This would be a vulnerable state to wind up in, because it would leave his core defenseless. He can be hurt, but the only thing that can kill his kind is essentially chaos matter. Having inherited the wings of the primarchs who governed the elements, Sandalphon can change his own element from his default light to one of the others.
In this case, it will be assumed that Sandalphon is locked to his original element. Light is both strong and weak to darkness. In combat, Sandalphon has a fair few tricks up his sleeve. Primarily, he can provoke an enemy to focus attacks on him and retaliate using his swords. Sandalphon both wears a sword at his hip and can manifest up to four more which are approximately the same size as him. He can heal mild to moderate damage and bestow a short-term regenerative effect on his allies. Additionally, he can weaken an eneny's attack or defense provided they aren't immune to this.
Sandalphon is also capable of unleashing many volleys of light at once. This attack, Ain Soph Aur, requires he first charge up energy in combat before making it rain bolts of light. The other charge attack he has access to is Paradise Lost, which strikes a target with a massive concentration of light, gives that regenerative effect to his comrades, and strengthens him. Following combat, all enhancements on allies or debitating effects on foes cease.
Aside from these things, Sandalphon is ancient, clever, and calculated. He can stimulate plant growth, having once revived a dying coffee tree, though this was not a conscious act on his part. He's intimately familiar with cultivating, roasting, milling, and brewing coffee.
personality:
Sandalphon comes across as an assured figure, standing tall and speaking frankly. In truth, he simply isn't very good at subterfuge and is either too sheltered or too surly to mince words if he has something to say. In his time among mortals he has learned to better understand and deal with emotions, and has gleaned some sensitivity regarding such matters, but Sandalphon is often still bracingly honest. Does a stranger want to complain to him about something he doesn't have the mental bandwidth for? They'd best be ready to be told he literally could not care less.
This isn't to say that Sandalphon doesn't care about others. Sometimes he can become far too involved if there's even a kernel of something he can relate to. He is, despite being known to be stiff if not prickly, someone who will care a little too easily so long as he understands. Doubtless a result of his time spent with the Grandcypher's crew, Sandalphon is a reasonably good listener when he has a mind to be. He gives sound advice, guided by his own experiences. Recently, he's even acquired the ability to banter after one too many jabs from Vyrn. Sandalphon may be ancient, but he's growing.
He has a tendency to strike off on his own, owing not to personal preference but an awkwardness born of millennia in isolation. Offers of inclusion tend perplex him, not quite knowing why others want him around... Yet he doesn't decline. Usually. Not one to initiate, however, Sandalphon tends to spend so much time in his room that he doesn't know who is regularly aboard the Grandcypher. When asked for help, he easily acquiesces and puts forth his best and earnest efforts. It's clear that he's perfectly willing to assist others, and yet his befuddlement over anyone wanting anything from him remains.
When faced with setbacks or surprises, Sandalphon's first response is usually flustered shows of anger. This comes across as his effort at a strong front, endeavoring not to display weakness. What he really achieves is a show of his deeply emotional nature. At the same time that he expresses a preference for logic and reason, he's driven by the strength of his own feelings. Due to this conflict, Sandalphon struggles to express his emotions openly and honestly, opting toward obfuscation even when others can clearly read him.
Although he's intelligent and capable in his own right, Sandalphon has a tendency toward reckless action. He often defaults to courses of action that place little if any priority on his own safety. A being like him is nigh impossible to kill, but more than this, Sandalphon earnestly desires to protect his comrades and their world. At times, he may lose sight of the fact that he can rely on others and that people are there for him. His reckless streak is a throwback to his past, but his determination to prevail is a mark of what he's overcome.
Over time, Sandalphon has learned to love the Sky Realm just as Lucifer had. He has seen its warmth and light for itself, and this has solidified his resolve as Supreme Primarch. As he has learned to cherish the world, he is determined to protect it and those he has come to hold dear. Gradually, Sandalphon is learning to show interest in those around him, and has come to find that he's capable of giving others both comfort and helpful advice. He carries Lucifer's memory with him always, but so too does he look to the future and to his own dreams, just as Lucifer had hoped for him.
